Study of bacterial biofilm
In the Institute of Biology at the Leiden University, the molecular biology team seeks to identify Pseudomonas (Pseudomonas putida) genes and traits involved in efficient competitive root colonisation in order to understand how bacteria survive, proliferate, and compete in the rhizosphere after bacterisation of seeds. The Minipuls evolution is used to study bacterial biofilms in flowcell chambers. Bacteria grow in flowcell chambers fed by an oxygenated solution and media. The Minipuls evolution is used to bring this solution to the chambers and recycle it.

Rat heart perfusion
An international pharmaceutical company present in 140 countries has integrated the Minipuls evolution in one of its cardiology laboratories where cardiovascular diseases are studied.

Neurons perfusion
Rhythmic motor behaviours, such as swimming, walking, and respiration, are generated by central pattern generators or CPGs. The Kiehn laboratory from the department of Neuroscience in the Karolinska Institute, Sweden, studies cellular and network properties of the locomotor CPG on neonatal rats. The spinal cord of neonatal rat is a robust in vitro preparation for combined electrophysiological recording and experimental manipulation of rhythmic locomotors activity.

Leaching tests of soils
The Swedish Geotechnical Institute, SGI, is a governmental agency whose laboratory performs examinations of water, soil and other solid materials for itself and external customers. SGI also conducts research to introduce and develop new examination methods and bases for new standards.

Endocrinology perifusion
In the Animal and Poultry Science Department of the University of Guelph, Canada, the research and teaching programs include: animal breeding, genetics, nutrition, physiology, growth and metabolism.

Electrophysiology of rat brain cells
To measure electrical signals and intracellular calcium concentrations of neuronal cells at the same time, Kwang-Hyun Cho, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher from the College of Medicine at the Catholic University of Korea, uses a microscope focusing on a perfusion chamber drained by a Minipuls 3. The neuronal cells come from a rat brain slice bathed in a buffer inside the chamber. This buffer is an oxygenated saline solution that ensures the viability of the neuronal cells, which are very sensitive to oxygen.

Biosensors research
The applications of piezoelectric biosensors are coming down to determination of viruses, bacterial and other cells, proteins nucleic acids and small molecules such as drugs, hormones and pesticides. The measuring setup for affinity studies mainly consists of a piezosensor, a driving computer, and a flow-through system.

Analysis of herbicides
Among the National Institute of Public Health in Prague, Czech Republic, one of the research departments focuses its studies on the analysis of pesticides in various matrices such as groundwater, wastewater, etc. These analyses are based on the extraction of polar herbicides from water samples.
